What Works

  • Todoist: Personal tasks
  • Asana: Work tasks with custom view
  • Obsidian: Brain, ALL information and note-taking
  • VSCode: All research, coding, programming, data
  • Pomodoro timer: Lately I’ve been using the Focused Work app (as of 2024-11-06)

What Doesn’t Work

  • Bullet journal
    • Ulysses
      • IT’s simple, doesn’t overhwelm me. I should use it more…. and i love the typewrite mode.
      • Good for deep writing.
    • Doesn’t work when it’s complicated.
    • Works great when I can rapid log.
    • That now, this week, later written notes system is good. I need to make a habit of processing notes ASAP
  • Sunsama
    • Brings everything together for day to day plannings.
    • Planning took too long. too much working getting stuff in/out from aana
  • Notion
    • Too much management
  • Workona with Asana
    • More direct in tasks and getting things synced. Less work.
    • Day-of planning - ONLY adding to my workona list what I am doing TODAY is what helped minimize distractions
    • 🔥 Can be sort of a pain for planning tasks for anything outside of Day-of
  • Bearable
    • Once I got it setup, it works.
    • No! Way to omuch tracking and time wasting.
  • TickTick
    • I like how it has a calendar
    • It can get overwhelming but that’s where simplifying lists works.
    • I got rid of the Eisenhower.
  • Todoist - NOt anymore. too much work.
    • Consistent for the last 9+ years. It’s been an evolution always going back to it but it make it SO easy to get stuff in and out
    • Todo - One thing I need to do is simplify how long it takes to get all of a tasks’ info setup - time estimate, assignee, project, due date, priority, label
      • Reminder - get rid of assignees - going to use the tracker for that. If it’s a reminder I need to FUP with someone, put their name in the notes. And use email > snooze
  • Continual updating of internal trackers. Im behind now. I gotta find a way to get that stuff off and into Todoist quicker. Maybe make a reminder for every thursday to > update internal trackers and then migrate to Todoist.
  • bearable app, complicated trackers, etc. overwhelm the fuck out of me. I can’t think when I use them. Too much to wrap my head around.
  • time blocks don’;t seem to be working. I can’t stick to them. It’s too much to follow. Maybe I should just stick to GTD, and timers for now.
    • they are overwhelming as FUCK so I simplified and got rid of unnecessary time blocks
  • Trello
    • Way too much work to get stuff into and out of the system
    • Stuff gets fragmented, not all in one place
    • Takes more time to get stuff in and documented than it does to the task
    • Notification system no bueno
    • It’s basically duplicating efforts
  • Marvin
    • WAY too much work
  • multitasking and tons of stuff open at once
    • update 2022-07-05: completely fucking overwhelmed today and scattered. Barely got ANYTHING done and feel eternally stuck.
      • also a takeaway. I overwhelm myself with notes but then when I go back to them there actually isn’t a ton to do….
